CPCWHS1001 — Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
The White Card — mandatory for all workers entering a construction site in Queensland. Half a day of face-to-face safety induction training in Dalby, QLD.
Course Overview
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

Without a valid White Card, workers cannot legally set foot on a construction site. This half-day course must be completed face-to-face with a registered training organisation (RTO) and cannot be completed entirely online under Queensland law.
Delivered at our Dalby facility, the course introduces participants to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (QLD), construction hazard identification, risk management, safe work procedures and the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers. Upon successful completion, participants receive a White Card (CPCWHS1001 Statement of Attainment) that is recognised across Australia and does not expire.
What You'll Learn
- Understand the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (QLD) and how it applies to construction work
- Identify the most common construction hazards — falls, electrocution, manual tasks, plant and vehicles
- Apply the hierarchy of controls to manage and reduce workplace risks
- Understand your rights and responsibilities as a worker, including the right to cease unsafe work
- Recognise and follow safe work procedures, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and permit systems
- Identify site-specific hazards including asbestos, silica dust and hazardous chemicals
- Report hazards, near misses and incidents in accordance with legislative requirements
Assessment Method
Assessment is conducted through written knowledge questions and scenario-based activities completed during the training day. The course must be delivered face-to-face; there is no fully online pathway available for Queensland residents. Participants must present 100 points of ID on the day.
Prerequisites
None — open to all persons aged 14 and over who intend to work on construction sites. Participants must provide current photo ID (passport, driver's licence or other government-issued ID).

- All workers — trades, labourers, apprentices and contractors — entering any construction site in Australia
- School leavers beginning trades or building apprenticeships in the Darling Downs
- Subcontractors and sole traders newly entering the construction industry
- Delivery drivers, surveyors, architects and others who visit construction sites regularly
- Anyone whose White Card has been lost, stolen or damaged and requires a replacement
