Please reach out to our team for further information and scheduling.
What You'll Learn
- Recognise and assess an emergency situation, and ensure the environment is safe for delivery of oxygen
- Perform single-rescuer CPR and resuscitation procedures with two or more rescuers, including use of oxygen, in accordance with ARC guidelines
- Use a bag-valve-mask with oxygen, and select and insert an appropriate basic airway adjunct
- Respond to regurgitation or vomiting using positioning and suctioning
- Follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Identify the need for oxygen therapy, including by using a pulse oximeter, and use an appropriate delivery device
- Administer oxygen safely at the correct flow rate and monitor the casualty's condition
- Manage life-threatening bleeding using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Report incident details, review the incident and recognise the possible psychological impacts on yourself and other rescuers
- Check, maintain and clean resuscitation and oxygen equipment ready for future use
Assessment Method
Participants must demonstrate the tasks set out in the unit, including at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor, at least 2 minutes of bag-valve-mask (with oxygen) ventilation and at least 2 minutes of compression during a procedure with at least two rescuers, and at least 2 minutes of single-rescuer CPR on an infant manikin. Participants also manage a conscious casualty who requires supplemental oxygen, manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding, and monitor and coordinate maintenance of the equipment. Participants must also demonstrate the knowledge the unit requires.
Performance evidence may be collected in a simulated environment that provides realistic scenarios and reflects real-life situations.
