HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a focused, three-hour course covering the single most critical emergency skill — CPR. This unit is endorsed by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and meets the requirements of Safe Work Australia for annual CPR training across all industries. Whether you are renewing your existing first aid certificate's CPR component or need standalone CPR training for licensing or workplace compliance, this short course delivers essential life-saving skills in a practical, hands-on environment in Dalby, QLD.

Annual renewal is strongly recommended by the ARC to maintain muscle memory and keep pace with any updates to clinical guidelines. This course is ideal for participants who hold HLTAID011 and need to update their CPR certification without completing the full first aid refresher.

What You'll Learn

  • Apply the DRSABCD framework to assess an unresponsive patient
  • Perform adult CPR to ARC guidelines — correct hand position, depth and rate
  • Adapt CPR technique for children (1–8 years) and infants (under 12 months)
  • Deliver effective rescue breaths with and without a face shield or pocket mask
  • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) through a full sequence
  • Coordinate two-rescuer CPR and manage rescuer fatigue during sustained resuscitation
  • Identify when to commence, continue and cease CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines

Assessment Method

Participants are assessed through direct observation of CPR and AED skills performed on an adult manikin, child manikin and infant manikin. A brief verbal or written knowledge check covers key concepts including compression rate, depth and the AED sequence. All assessment is conducted on the day.

Prerequisites

None — open to all participants aged 14 and over. No prior first aid knowledge is required. Participants must be physically capable of performing chest compressions.
